The City of Moreton Bay Council (CMBC) Planning Scheme is important to everyone on Bribie Island; its implementation determines Bribie residents' quality of life, including our native flora and fauna.
BIEPA's current engagement with CMBC and the planning system is focused on a Development Application (DA) for 99 First Avenue, Bongaree. This is because, if this DA were to proceed, the detrimental impact would extend well beyond the site itself, causing ongoing damage to the nearby National Park and ecologically significant wetlands. There would be sewage discharged into the water table, a 30m fire-break outside the site's boundary, wildlife deaths from increased road traffic, and many other issues.

This development would set a precedent for the urbanisation of this wildlife corridor, the thin end of a wedge pushing out the native plants and wildlife valued by Bribie residents. The peaceful interurban break between Bongaree and Woorim—frequented by wildlife for the habitat it offers on both sides of the road—would be no more.

Use the download button below to read our comprehensive submission on the DA, which details the many ways in which it goes against Council's own Planning Scheme as well as its Corporate Plan, especially its Environment and Sustainability Strategy.
BIEPA members are invited to another Information Session about our appeal against Council's decision on this DA, to be held on Thursday 6th March 2025 upstairs in the ANZAC Room at Bribie Island RSL Club.
