We have an opportunity to draw the Queensland parliament's attention to the high speed jet skis and other watercraft that frequently race up Pumicestone Passage and cause terrible injuries to marine creatures.

BIEPA member Carol Wood has a submitted an e-petition to parliament to collect signatures from people supporting a lowering of the speed limit for watercraft in the southern part of Pumicestone Passage. The petition closes on 28th February 2025.
The current speed limit is 40 knots (74 kph) which is much too fast for animals like dugongs, dolphins, and turtles to get out of the way.
The proposed speed limit is 20 knots (37 kph) for the whole Passage from South Point at Bongaree. The Sunshine Coast Council end of the Passage north to Caloundra already has a speed limit of 20 knots.
