An important presence

For many years BIEPA has had a stall at the Rotary Market in Brennan Park, Bongaree in the morning on the second Sunday of each month. It has been exceptionally valuable in raising awareness of environmental issues and BIEPA's activities, and in raising funds through donations and the sale of things like books and T-shirts.

A rewarding way to help

Working on the stall is fairly relaxed and surprisingly rewarding. There's no pressure to sell anything, we're just there to educate interested locals and visitors. It's amazing how many new Bribie residents are excited to find out about BIEPA and local environmental issues and activities. It's also great way to meet other BIEPA members and learn more about what our teams are up to.

Most recently the market stall has been coordinated by the indefatigable Geoff Ginn, our busy Secretary Liz O'Byrne, and other stalwart members, but we need others to carry the torch in their turn. A coordinator is responsible for overseeing the market stall for each month, making sure we have enough volunteers ready to go. The more members we have taking a turn in this coordination role, the easier it is for each person to contribute. With four members for example, each would only have to coordinate three stalls a year.

Plenty of guidance given

Geoff has put together some comprehensive instructions on how to coordinate the stall each month. As a coordinator, you'll have other members at the stall helping out, many of whom will have done it before. It is always a friendly and collaborative activity.

There are always a number of members willing to carry boxes and put up the marquee and tables, it's the coordination of them that's essential. All the equipment and stock is held at The Depot on Webster Street, so you won't need to keep anything in your home.
